Privacy Policy
This policy explains how Camber Components handles personal information when you contact us, buy or sell computer components, or use our website.
Information we collect
When you contact us, we may receive your name, email address, contact details and the contents of your message.
When buying or selling through eBay, we may receive the information needed to handle transactions, payments, delivery, returns and customer support, such as names, addresses, order details and correspondence.
Our Sell Your PC service is currently being tested and is not publicly launched. During authorised testing, sellers may submit contact details, PC specifications, photographs and other information needed to assess their PC. If an offer is made, the seller receives an offer link by email. After accepting the offer through that link, the seller completes the packaging and postage sections, followed by bank details needed to arrange payment. Bank details are not requested as part of the initial PC submission. Please avoid including unnecessary personal information in photographs or descriptions.
Website analytics, security and cookies
With your permission, we record limited website analytics, including page views, product views and clicks on links to eBay listings. These statistics help us understand interest in our products, improve the website and measure referrals. Optional analytics is disabled unless you choose to enable it.
You can choose Turn off analytics or Keep analytics on using our cookie preferences notice. You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie settings link in the website footer.
We store your choice in a first-party cookie named camber_analytics. It contains either on or off, lasts for up to 180 days and is used to remember your preference.
When optional analytics is enabled, we may temporarily process pseudonymised identifiers derived from browser or session information, together with event times and relevant product identifiers, to help identify automated or unusual activity in our analytics. This analytics-related recording is disabled when you turn off analytics. Hashing reduces direct identifiability but does not necessarily make this information anonymous.
These temporary bot-detection records are subject to daily cleanup, with records older than 24 hours selected for deletion at each run. As a result, they may ordinarily remain for approximately 24–48 hours. Other records, including aggregate counts and referral events, may be kept longer.
Essential cookies remain available regardless of your analytics preference. These support functions such as customer submission sessions, temporary photograph uploads and protection against fraudulent form submissions. Turning off analytics does not disable these necessary website functions.
Other providers, including eBay after you follow a link, may use their own cookies under their own policies.
Why we use information and our lawful bases
- Enquiries and customer support: to respond to messages and deal with requests, generally based on our legitimate interests or steps requested before entering a contract.
- Sales, purchases and deliveries: to fulfil transactions and manage returns, generally to perform a contract.
- Sell Your PC: to assess submitted PCs, communicate offers, manage offer acceptance, arrange packaging and postage, and process seller payments. Depending on the stage, this is generally based on steps requested before entering a contract or performance of a contract.
- Accounts, tax and business records: to meet legal obligations and maintain appropriate records.
- Website operation, security and improvement: to keep the site reliable, prevent misuse and understand its performance, generally based on our legitimate interests, where applicable.
Where consent is required for a particular use of cookies or personal information, we will seek it before that use.
eBay and referral links
Some product links take you to eBay, where eBay's terms and privacy practices apply. We may use authorised eBay services to display listing information and may earn a commission from qualifying referrals. Our affiliate links continue to work when analytics is disabled. We record website referral-click events only when you have enabled optional analytics.
Who information may be shared with
We do not sell customer personal information. Where necessary, information may be shared with eBay, payment and delivery providers, email providers, website hosting and technical service providers, and professional advisers or public authorities where required by law.
Some providers may process information outside the UK. Where UK data protection law requires safeguards for international transfers, we will rely on an applicable lawful transfer mechanism.
How long we keep information
We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for its purpose. Transaction and accounting records may need to be retained for several years to satisfy tax and legal requirements. Enquiries and test submissions are reviewed according to their ongoing need and any relevant obligations.
Temporary photographs uploaded during the Sell Your PC draft process are stored separately from completed submissions. Our automated cleanup checks for drafts whose most recent photograph upload was more than seven days ago and deletes their temporary photographs. The cleanup is scheduled daily. This is separate from the retention of submission records and photographs attached to completed submissions.
For Sell Your PC, draft submissions that have been inactive for more than 30 days become eligible for manual retention review and deletion. Rejected or returned submissions become eligible once more than 183 days have passed since their recorded closure date. These are review thresholds, not automatic deletion deadlines.
Information relating to completed transactions and payments may be retained where necessary for accounting, legal obligations, customer support or dispute resolution. We regularly review personal information and securely remove it when it is no longer required.
Temporary bot-detection records and individual product-view records are subject to daily cleanup. Records older than 24 hours are deleted during each cleanup run, meaning they are ordinarily retained for approximately 24 to 48 hours. Aggregate website statistics, including total page views, visits and product views, are stored separately and may be retained longer for reporting and business analysis. We review retention practices as the website develops.
